Williams traded to Kings

The Timberwolves have traded former No. 2 overall pick Derrick Williams to the Sacramento Kings for Luc Mbah a Moute.

Williams’ tenure in Minnesota was not a pleasant one as he found it difficult to get off Rick Adelman’s bench. The only consistent playing time he really got was last season when Kevin Love missed some significant time due to injury. This season Williams played less than 15 minutes per game, much of it during blowouts. In just over two years with the Wolves, Williams averaged 10.1 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. A change in scenery for the 22-year-old former Arizona Wildcat was sorely needed.

In Luc Mbah a Moute, the Wolves receive one of the premier defensive players in the league with an ability to guard multiple positions. He should provide lots of energy, grit and a high basketball IQ to the team. This season Mbah a Moute was averaging 4.4 PPG. 3.0 RPG, and 1.7 APG in 9 games (21.8 MPG). He was selected 37th pick overall of the 2008 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks.
